General
Mesenchymal Stem Cells are a type of adult stem cell that can turn into several kinds of “support” tissues in the body, especially bone, cartilage, fat, and muscle.
Two key features define them:
They are multipotent, meaning they can become multiple, but not all, cell types
They help control inflammation and support tissue repair by releasing signaling molecules that calm the immune system and encourage healing rather than directly replacing all damaged cells themselves.
Because of these properties, Mesenchymal Stem Cells are being studied as potential treatments for conditions involving inflammation, autoimmunity, and tissue damage.
